Software Downloads for Remote Access during COVID-19

To facilitate online learning and remote University operations, CUIT is temporarily offering access to download certain software.

Alternatively you can access these programs remotely by connecting to a CUIT computer lab.

CUIT's Software Downloads page continues to have links to all the programs that are typically available.

Adobe Creative Cloud

Please follow the instructions below to enable access to Creative Cloud Desktop Apps on your personal device. 

***The following schools are not eligible: Barnard College, Columbia Graduate School of Business, CUIMC and Teachers College.  Please reach out to your respective IT groups for access.***

1. Visit https://creativecloud.adobe.com and use your primary @columbia.edu email address to sign in. For example, if your default email address is john.doe@columbia.edu and not jd1234@columbia.edu, please use john.doe@columbia.edu.

2. If prompted, select Company or School Account and then enter your UNI and password in the Columbia login screen. **DO  NOT select Personal Account**.

3. From the Creative Cloud website, search for and download your desired app. You can click Apps on the top of the page to view all apps. For more information on how to download or install apps, see Download and Install Creative Cloud apps.

For Higher Education students to continue developing skills, Adobe offers free “Daily Creative Challenges”. These are guided projects where participants receive creative prompts and connect with pros, mentors, and other students for feedback and support. Click on the app name to learn more: Photoshop, XD and Illustrator. Also, for inspiration and over-the-shoulder learning, watch pros share their creative process on Adobe Live daily at www.behance.net/adobelive.

For faculty seeking to engage students during campus closures, Adobe has curated distance learning resources to help them discover inspiring projects, best practices, and new ideas so they can continue to drive valuable learning in virtual environments.

ArcGIS

  1. Click to download the ArcGIS Desktop installation package.
  2. Unzip the package and open the setup.exe file to begin installation. Click Next to continue.
  3. Accept the license agreement and click Next.
  4. Select Complete for the installation type. Click Next.
  5. Install ArcGIS in the default location. Click Next.
  6. Click Install to begin installation. The checkbox next to Click here to participate in the Esri User Experience Improvement program is usually left unchecked.
  7. To authorize the software, define the license manager as spring2020.cuit.columbia.edu. Click OK.
  8. Click OK to finish the authorization.
License server: spring2020.cuit.columbia.edu
  1. Click to download the ArcGIS City Engine installation package.
  2. Once the software is unzipped click on setup.exe to start the installation. Click Next to continue.
  3. Accept the license agreement and click Next.
  4. Install ArcGIS City Engine in the default location. Click Next.
  5. Click on Install to start.
  6. To authorize the software, define the license manager as spring2020.cuit.columbia.edu. Click OK.
  7. Click OK to finish the authorization.

You should already have account login credentials for ArcGIS Pro, so no license server is needed. 

If you’re not sure if you have an ArcGIS online account, contact CIESIN on their website below to request an account. There’s a request link on the bottom of this page where eligible faculty, staff and students can request an ArcGIS Online organizational account.

  1. Click to download the ArcGIS Pro installation package.
  2. There are 2 installers to run, the main ArcGISPro.msi and the patch.msp file afterwards. Click on ArcGISPro.msi.
  3. Click on Next to start the installation process.
  4. Accept the agreement and click Next.
  5. If you choose to install ArcGIS pro for “Anyone who uses this computer” you need to have Admin access on your computer. If you don’t have it or aren’t sure, install “Only for me”.
  6. Accept the default location for installation. Click next
  7. Click Install to begin installation. 

After the install has finished and before launching ArcGIS Pro, install the patch.

  1. Click on ArcGISPro_243_173271.msp. 
  2. Click on Update.
  3. Run ArcGIS Pro. Click on Finish.

Mathematica

New users will need to create a Wolfram ID

  1. Visit user.wolfram.com and click Don't have a Wolfram ID? Create one.
  2. Complete the form using your @columbia.edu email address
  3. Click Create Wolfram ID
  4. Check your email and click the link to validate your Wolfram ID

Access Mathematica Online

  1. Sign in with your Wolfram ID to fill out the Mathematica Online request form
  2. Navigate to wolframcloud.com and sign in with Wolfram ID and password
  1. Click to download the Windows Mathematica 12 installation package or Mac Mathematica 12 installation package.
  2. Unzip the package and open the setup.exe file. Click Next to start the installation.
  3. Keep the default installation path for the Destination Location (click Next).
  4. Install all components that are listing. Click Next.
  5. Select the default location for the start menu. Click Next.
  6. Confirm the Ready to Install information and click Next to begin installation. It may take a few minutes.
  7. Once the installation is complete, ensure the checkbox next to Launch Wolfram Mathematica is checked.
  8. Click on Other ways to Activate.
  9. Select Connect to a network license server.
  10. Enter in spring2020.cuit.columbia.edu for the server name and click Activate.
  11. Accept the license terms and click OK.

MATLAB

Students and faculty always have access to MATLAB's cloud-based tools for instruction: 

All of these can be accessed via the MathWorks/Columbia Student Portal.

If faculty are unfamiliar with MATLAB Online, this short Teaching with MATLAB training will help you get up to speed on using these online resources.

  1. Click to download MATLAB 2019A for Windows OR click to download MATLAB 2019A for Mac
  2. Both Windows and Mac users must also download the MATLAB license file.
  3. Unzip the installer and run the setup file.
  4. To start the install select Use a File Installation Key, click Next.
  5. Accept the license agreement.
  6. Enter in the File Installation Key: 58011-10632-60050-35408-58334-32018-48932-45074-26212-10364-44256-54290-50021-20638- 52599-34468-03635
  7. Keep the install path to the default location: C:\Program Files\MATLAB\R2019a 
  8. Select products to install, accept the defaults. This should be everything but the top product “Network License Manager 11.14.1.2”. Click Next.
  9. Browse to the license file (network-2019a-CSS.lic) location that you saved earlier. Click Next
  10. Chose where you want the MATLAB shortcuts installed.
  11. Review the confirmation and click Install.

Take note if you will use these features:

  1. Click Next.
  2. Click Finish and you’re done!

SAS

  1. Click to download the SAS installer (be patient, it could take over an hour to download).  
  2. After you extract the zip file, the installer is located in the “SAS Software Depot” folder.
    1. NOTE: In the sid_files folder, there is a license file. This will be used later in the installation process.
  3. To start installing SAS, run the setup.exe file. Select an installer language and click OK. 
  4. Select “Install SAS software”
  5. Pick an install location (the default location is preferred).
  6. Select the default “Install SAS Foundation and Related Software”
  7. Select the products to install, there’s a default selection. Make sure that “SAS Foundation” is checked.
  8. Select the mode you want to install. For the greatest compatibility choose 32-bit. To utilize more of your PC’s RAM choose 64-bit Native Mode.
  9. All the SAS foundation products are selected by default, you can leave all of them checked.
  10. The installer will usually automatically find the license file. If for some reason the file is not auto found, browse to the sid_files folder and click on the license file: SAS94_9C7S8G_70083303_Win_X64_Wrkstn.txt
  11. All the languages are checked by default, to save hard drive space you can select just the language(s) you'd like.

Typically, the Regional Setting is left set to English

12. The installer will do a systems pre-check before it begins installing

13. Click on Start to begin the actual software install. There are several hundred installation steps it will go through, be patient.

14. Click Next to complete the installation.

The Select Support Option is typically left to “Do Not Send”.

15. Confirm and click Finish

16. Search for SAS in the Start menu, do a test launch and make sure the software is licensed.

SPSS

While Columbia University classes are taught online, the SPSS software can be downloaded and run from your computer off-campus. VPN is not necessary. A valid UNI is needed to download the software.

Your computer must have an active internet connection while running the SPSS software.

Windows Instructions: 

  1. Click to download SPSS for Windows
  2. Download the software and run the installer. 
  3. Accept the license agreement. 
  4. Select the default destination folder. 
  5. After the install completes make sure “Start SPSS Statistics 26 License Authorization Wizard now” is checked.
  6. Once the Authorization wizards launches, select the 2nd option - Concurrent user license
  7. The next window enter in the License Manager name: spring2020.cuit.columbia.edu

Mac Instructions: 

  1. Click to download SPSS for Mac
  2. After clicking on the link to download, you will have to allow downloads from the website.
  3. After the download completes, the installer should run. If not, click on the SPSS disk image that mounts on the desktop and click on the installer.
  4. Enter in you Mac user account password.
  5. Click OK to start the install.
  6. Click Next and accept the two license agreements. 
  7. Keep the default install location and click Next and then click Install on the next window. 
  8. When the installer finishes, make sure “Start SPSS Statistics 26 License Authorization Wizard now” is checked.
  9. Click Next, we will enter the license information in the next window.
  10. Select the Concurrent user license option
  11. On the next window enter in the license server address: spring2020.cuit.columbia.edu
  12. When you see the screen below, SPSS is licensed on your Mac!

Stata

  1. Navigate to https://download.stata.com/download
  2. Log on with these credentials: Username: 1584983363 | Password: kp7tkUE1
  3. Follow instructions from the Stata Installation Guide

Please be aware this license will expire June 1, 2020.
