Digital & Strategic Communications Coordinator

The CUIT Communications Department is seeking a self-motivated, reliable, hard-working and enthusiastic candidate who will partner with CUIT’s Communications department and others to promote its activities and initiatives to the broader internal and external audiences.

The Columbia University Information Technology (CUIT) group supports mission-critical technology for over 40,000 students, faculty and staff, providing Columbia University with a myriad of central computing and communications services including email, telephone service, web publishing, computer labs and electronic classrooms, course management and student information applications, office and administrative applications, and management of the high-speed campus Ethernet and wireless networks.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate ownership over their tasks while thriving as a team-player in a fast-paced environment. Superior work ethic, discretion, and discernment are required, as is flexibility and a team-oriented approach. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to deliver a superior work product while coordinating multiple projects with competing priorities is necessary.

  • Write initial draft content for both print and Web (e.g., CUIT website, WIT website, employee newsletter and various internal communications like Welcome emails, etc.)
  • Draft digital signage slides to promote employee events
  • Perform research to bolster CUIT employee intranet resources
  • Analyze Google analytics from CUIT and WIT website and make recommendations
  • Assists department staff with events, seminars, faculty meetings, and other activities
  • Other administrative tasks as assigned


  • An interest in Marketing, Communications, English, Public Relations or Journalism
  • Above par (if not excellent) writing and editing skills
  • The ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both written and verbal form
  • A “can-do” temperament and the capacity to identify and resolve work production issues in a timely and professional manner
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills
  • Proven proficiency in Microsoft Office and the Google Suite, including ability to create spreadsheets, manage databases, and generate reports 


  • Some experience working in a marketing or communications capacity
  • Some experience with (or an interest in) survey/feedback development and coding survey data
  • Interest in photography and/or graphic design
  • Prior office experience

Position Details

  • 10-20 hours/week between the hours of 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday
  • $15/hour
  • Based in CUIT’s Studebaker building location (615 West 131st Street)
  • Role would begin between December and January and extend into May; candidates able to/interested in extending through the summer 2020 are preferred
