Joining Class Remotely

There are three primary ways for Columbia instructors to hold remote classroom sessions:

  1. Using Zoom (links provided directly by your instructor or department via email or announcement in CourseWorks)
  2. CourseWorks: Zoom Class Sessions
  3. CourseWorks: Conferences

If your instructor has provided you with a Zoom link, simply click the link to begin the session. If your instructor is using Zoom Class Sessions or Conferences in CourseWorks, please follow the instructions below.

First-time Zoom Users

If you haven't used Zoom before, please join the session a few minutes early so you can complete the first-time setup activities.You can avoid these activities by pre-installing and testing Zoom using the Zoom test page. If you've already installed Zoom but are unsure if it is working, this site can verify your voice, video, and sound are all functioning properly. 

CourseWorks: Zoom Class Sessions

  1. Log in to CourseWorks.
  2. Navigate to the section of your upcoming class.
  3. Click the Zoom Class Sessions button found in the left-hand navigation pane. If you do not see a button for Zoom Class Sessions, please follow the Conferences instructions.
  4. Once you click on Zoom Class Sessions, you will see a list under Upcoming Meetings of future class session. If you do not see a session listed under Upcoming Meetings, please follow the Conferences instructions.
  5. Click Join to enter a class at the appropriate time.

CourseWorks: Conferences

  1. Log in to CourseWorks.
  2. Navigate to the section of your upcoming class.
  3. Click the Conferences button found in the left-hand navigation pane.
  4. Once you click on Conferences, you will see a list of future class sessions.
  5. Click to enter a class at the appropriate time.
