Storage and Backups

Providing, administering and backing up Columbia's enterprise computing storage space.

Also known as Storage as a Service (SaaS).

CUIT offers storage on NetApp arrays within the CUIT infrastructure and provides backups (if requested) using our Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) backup environment. If Disaster Recovery (DR) is purchased, data will be replicated to our Syracuse DataCenter or to Amazon (AWS)

Protocols supported:

  • Network File System (NFS)
  • Common Internet File System (CIFS)

Storage tiers available:

  • SATA: recommended for low workload; mostly for file storage
  • SAS: recommended for normal applications as well as databases
  • SSD: recommended for applications and databases which are very sensitive to latency and require high throughput

Storage hosting policies:

  • Adherence to all CUIT policies including Data Classification, Security and Standard Operating Environments
  • In most cases, storage is purchased as part of a CUIT-hosted Virtual Machine which is billed separately
  • Backups are retained for 35 days unless superseded by an alternate agreement outlining custom retention policies
  • Data may be backed up to local storage and replicated to our Disaster Recovery Site in Syracuse, or in Amazon (AWS)

This service can include:

  • Provision storage and/or configure backup schedules
  • Basic performance tuning
  • Backups and restores
  • Monitoring and alerts
  • Disaster recovery (DR)

The following are not included in this service:

  • Analysis or troubleshooting of any services (web, application) which depend on the hosted server (unless specifically agreed to in an SLA)
