Getting Connected

Ethernet and Wireless

High-speed network access is available in office spaces, 65 campus buildings, most University Apartment Housing (UAH), and from remote locations via dedicated high-speed links. CUIT designs and manages the fiber-optic based network on the Morningside and Manhattanville campuses.

Faculty and staff at Morningside and Manhattanville have the option of connecting their personal computers using either high-speed wired Ethernet or wireless supported by CUIT. If you live in a Columbia-owned apartment, you have the option of getting a network jack installed. Faculty and staff may also use Internet connections in remote locations to access office resources via the Virtual Private Network (VPN) client.

Students living in the residence halls have access to a high speed 802.11N wireless network. We no longer have active wired Ethernet jacks in the residence halls, except for Fairholm.

Use our connection guides to help you connect. Please note that you are required to have a computer that meets our support specifications.

Secure Wireless

Columbia U Secure adds increased security for data and email and is the preferred wireless network for all Morningside and Manhattanville students, faculty and staff. It provides encryption for all online interactions that are not otherwise encrypted.
